Redevelopment proposals for a new manufacturing facility on land off Grange Road, Cwmbran

Cedar Cwmbran Limited (Cedar) is bringing forward proposals to redevelop land off Grange Road, Cwmbran with a new 100,000 sq ft manufacturing facility, offices, car parking, and external works.

Land off Grange Road, Cwmbran is a vacant, brownfield site located west of the railway line and north of the industrial estate on Llanfrechfa Way. Cedar propose to unlock the economic potential of this site, which is allocated for industrial use, by delivering a new factory for Crane Process Flow Technologies (Crane), a local company who are a global market leader for Industrial Diaphragm Valves for corrosive and abrasive industrial applications, and the Life Science industries. The proposed factory will replace Crane’s existing facility, situated to the north of the site.

Crane’s existing factory no longer meets its requirements, which means that the company needs to secure more modern and efficient accommodation, and it has been looking at a number of options in both the UK and overseas.  Ideally, Crane would like to stay part of the local community and keep operating from Cwmbran, but this will only be possible if a site for its new factory can be agreed.

Cedar’s proposals therefore represent an important opportunity for the town’s economy, as they will not only secure Crane’s ongoing presence in Cwmbran (where they have operated since 1934), but will also safeguard nearly 170 quality local jobs based at its current facility, plus many more jobs in other businesses in the region who supply a wide range of services to Crane’s operations.

Cedar would welcome comments on its draft plans prior to the feedback deadline of midnight on Sunday 20th December 2020. The ways that you can provide this feedback are detailed on our Contact page, or you can provide your comments online via the Have Your Say page

Statutory pre-application consultation

The purpose of the pre-application consultation is to enable Cedar to present its draft plans for land off Grange Road, Cwmbran to relevant neighbours and stakeholders and gain feedbackThis is to ensure that, where possible, amendments can be made prior to submitting a planning application. 

In accordance with the statutory consultation process for major applications, Cedar notified site neighbours, consultees and stakeholders of this pre-application consultation on Monday 23rd November 2020 

Response cards and postage-paid envelopes have been included with the newsletter distributed to stakeholders and neighbours, encouraging recipients to submit comments on the proposals for the site. 

The consultation window for interested parties to make representations on this draft proposal will remain open until midnight on Sunday 20th December 2020meeting the statutory requirements.  

Cedar intend to submit the planning application to Torfaen County Borough Council in early January 2021.
